    Spare Parts of Sewing Machine

The sewing machine is our main tool to carry out our sewing projects.

Therefore, before starting to sew, we must know all the parts that make up the sewing machine and also what function each one performs.

All sewing machines, no matter the model or type of machine, have a series of basic common components that you must know in order to use it correctly and at full capacity.

So keep reading and you will know the different parts of sewing machines and their function.

Stitch selector dial: Here you can select the stitch with which the machine will sew. You can choose it based on the keys contained in the stitch display.

Stitch length selector dial: Allows you to adjust the length of the stitch when we sew. Normally the number indicates the length in millimeters of the stitches and when it is at 0 the needle does not advance, always sticking in the same place.

Stitch display: Contains an outline-drawing of the different stitches that the sewing machine can make in order to identify them on the stitch selector dial.

Bobbin winder and winder brake: Allows the bobbin to be loaded quickly, it has a brake to control the amount of thread that is loaded.

Thread holder: Holds the bobbin of upper thread when sewing or loading the bobbin, to use it stretch from the upper end until the shaft on which the thread spool will be placed appears.

Tensioner: Adjusts the tension of the upper thread when the bobbin is loaded.

Thread take-up: Provides the needle with the amount of thread necessary to make the stitches.

Tension dial: There you can vary the tension of the upper thread depending on the type of stitch or fabric you use, it is a very important component, since correct use of the thread tension is necessary so that the stitches are perfect.

Front cover: Allows access to the machine shaft to grease it. Inside you will also find a bulb that illuminates the part of the needle to facilitate sewing.

Needle plate: It has a central hole through which the needle is inserted to make the stitch at the same time that it acts as a transport mechanism that advances the fabric. Most machines also have a series of parallel linear marks that indicate the distance between the needle and each one of them and are very useful to control the distance between the seam and the edge of the fabric, generally measured in centimeters and inches.

Accessory drawer: Increases the sewing surface for machine fabric handling. When removed, it allows access to the bobbin case and inside it usually contains a space to store the most common accessories of the sewing machine (needles, presser feet, screwdriver ...)

Presser foot lifting lever: Raises the presser foot to release the fabric. It has two types of elevation, the first is to achieve a normal elevation that can be left fixed by leaving the lever in it; the second is only held manually and allows you to manipulate the needle shaft to be able to change some presser feet.

Presser foot: It is in charge of holding the fabric while it is being sewn, there is an immense variety of feet adapted to the different needs we have when we sew: sew zippers, sew buttons, make buttonholes, sew ribbons and cords, sew beads, gather… Yes Picas in this link you access the variety of presser feet that we have Presser feet

Back key: When pressed, the direction in which the machine sews is reversed, that is, it will sew backwards. It is used for finishing off and preventing stitches from unraveling at the beginning and end of the seams.

Steering wheel: Control the machine. In non-electric machines it must be turned to lower and raise the needle, in electric machines it is operated by means of the pedal. The steering wheel has a function that allows it to be deactivated in order to fill the bobbins.

Normally in addition, in the back part we will find:

Switch: Turns the machine on and off. When you turn it on, the bulb that illuminates the needle operates.

    Power socket:

Allows you to connect the machine to the electrical current. The connection cable to the electric current fulfills a double function, on the one hand it has the two plugs that allow the machine to be connected, and on the other it has the connection to the pedal, which is the mechanism that moves the steering wheel and controls the speed of the machine. sewing.

And so far today's class, we hope as always to have been very useful.
