It is seldom clear what type of Needles to use for domestic Overlock and Coating Machines. In general, they are usually used the same as for Normal Household Machines, but that they can be used does not mean that they are the most suitable.


1.- Needles for Overlocking and Coating Machines:
Specific needles for use in this type of machine are marketed in the market. These are Needles specially designed to withstand the speeds and friction they are subjected to with Overlock and / or Coating Machines (1,300-1,500 stitches per minute compared to 750 stitches per normal machine). Therefore, although at first glance they look like the normal ones, there are certain differences between the two ranges.

SERGER Specific Needles have a groove on the Front and Back sides of the shank to reduce skipping stitches. The second long slot is needed to create chain stitches made by Overlockers and Covering Machines.



The specific needles for Overlocking and Coating Machines are standardized under the Code ELx705 Serger Identification Color Black. As with the needles for domestic machines, within the range of special Overlock Serger needles we find different types:

1.1.- ELx705 Seger: Standard type needles valid for a multitude of Fabrics. Available in thicknesses Nº80, Nº90 and Assorted Blister.




1.2.- ELx705 CF Seger: Identical to the previous ones, but manufactured with a Chrome reinforcement (CF = Chrome Finished) that gives the needles even more resistance against wear. Available in thicknesses Nº65, Nº80, Nº90 and Assorted Blister.




1.3.- ELx705 SUK CF Seger: They have a Medium Rounded Point that makes them ideal for sewing knitwear. Manufactured with a Chrome reinforcement (CF = Chrome Finished) that gives the needles even more resistance against wear. Available in thicknesses Nº65, Nº80, Nº90 and Assorted Blister.



There is an exception among the Overlock Machines that are currently marketed. The Singer Brand Low-Cost models and the Silvercrest model sold by the Lidl supermarket chain, use a type of needles with a SPECIFIC Code.




Under the Code SY-2022 (Model Singer 14SH) and SY-2054 (Model Singer 14U and Silvercrest), you will also find a range similar to the previous one with a type of Standard needles and another SUK with ball point for knitwear. Take this into account when you go to buy needles for your overlock if you have one of these models.
