Needle anatomy
The needle has several parts that, together, perform the task of sewing. Each of these parts plays a different role. It is worth knowing a little about each of these parts that make up the anatomy of the needle of any sewing machine:
Antler: part that extends from the trunk to the eye. It is the one that bears most of the friction when penetrating the fabric and therefore, a greater heat.
Rope - the thickest part of the needle, anchored by the clamp or sometimes by a screw. Provides additional strength.
Stopper: facilitates insertion into the needle bar.
Short channel: it forms in the upper part of the long channel. Helps the needle thread go through the loop.
Eye: located at the bottom of the shaft. Through the eye, the thread is brought to the lower zone.
Point: The point is the first part of the needle that penetrates the fabric. Its material and shape depend on its purpose (materials that it will penetrate).
Tip type: end of the shaft that, as the name suggests, ends in a point. Defines penetration performance.
Long channel: it is one of the sides of the trunk of the needle. It provides a channel of protection and, at each stitch, the thread is drawn down through the material.
Undercut: cut in the antler just above the eye. Allows better stitch adjustment.
The importance of brands
There are several brands of needles on the market, which vary in price and quality.
As it is one of the most important elements in a sewing machine, it is advisable to buy quality needles. They will be much more resistant and your stitches will be perfect. We therefore recommend the Groz Beckert brand.
Manual
You should inform yourself about which needles are the most suitable for each task. There may be needles that work better than others. Normally, in the Instruction Manual of your machine a table will appear in which the thickness of the needles is specified for each type of fabric. Although, as a general rule, these descriptions are very basic and confusing.
